Ice-O-Matic repairs for Perth bars, cafes and kitchens

Compact ice maker built in beneath a cafe counter

Ice-O-Matic builds compact undercounter ice machines as well as larger cube heads and flakers, and you will find them in Perth cafes, bars, hotels and supermarkets. When one of them slows down, leaks or stops altogether, Sam Celesti comes to you, finds out why and prices the fix before any work begins.

Sam holds ARCtick licence AU55592 and has over 20 years in commercial refrigeration. He is independent rather than an Ice-O-Matic agent, so he repairs whatever model you have, old or new, and handles the rest of your refrigeration on the same visit if needed.

Ice-O-Matic models Sam services

There are 37 Ice-O-Matic listings in the current Perth range, and Sam works on all of them as well as older machines no longer on sale.

  • UCG gourmet machines. Ten self-contained models from 20.5 kg to 73 kg a day. Four of them, the UCG045APD, UCG065APD, UCG085APD and UCG135APD, have a built in pump out drain.
  • ICEU225. A self-contained cube machine rated at 96 kg a day.
  • CIM cube heads. Ten heads from the CIM0325 at 132 kg a day up to the CIM1845 at 776 kg, designed to sit on a separate bin.
  • Flakers. The ICF165A at 80 kg a day and the MFI0805 modular flaker at 333 kg a day.
  • Bins and dispensers. Ten storage bins from 110 kg to 460 kg, and four CD cube dispensers holding 55 kg or 81 kg.

Thinking about a new machine instead? You can see the Ice-O-Matic range Sam can supply, with the daily output or storage for each model.

Pump out drain models need a working pump

A standard undercounter machine lets melt water fall to a waste below it. The PD versions of the UCG range were made for benches where that is not possible, using a small pump to lift the water to a higher or more distant drain. It is a handy feature, but it adds one more part that has to work every day.

When a drain pump fails or its line blocks with scale and debris, water backs up inside the cabinet. Depending on the setup, the machine may shut itself down, overflow onto the floor, or keep running with water sitting where it should not. If your PD machine has water pooling in or under it, turn it off and call. Sam clears the line, tests the pump and float, and checks that the outlet run is clear all the way to the waste.

Flake ice machines and their wearing parts

The ICF165A and MFI0805 make flake ice for seafood displays, produce cases and food prep. Like other flakers they use an auger turning inside a refrigerated cylinder, so the parts that carry load, such as bearings, seals and the gear motor, wear over time. Early signs are noise, wet ice, water around the base or the machine tripping out.

Scale matters even more here, because a coated cylinder forces the auger to work harder. Getting a flaker descaled on time protects the gearbox as well as the ice.

Cube heads, bins and dispensers

Large ice making head sitting on a stainless bin in a back room

A CIM head only makes ice. It relies on the bin underneath to store it and on a bin control to tell it when to stop. If that control sticks, the head can stop early and leave you short, or keep going until ice jams the drop zone. The seal between head and bin also needs to stay sound to keep dust and pests out.

The CD dispensers have their own wear points: the agitator, the dispensing gate and the drain. Ice that clumps in a dispenser that sits idle overnight is a common cause of jams. On any of these, Sam looks at the ice maker and the storage as one system, because a fault in one often shows up in the other.

Regular servicing for Ice-O-Matic machines

Descaling and sanitising on a schedule is the easiest way to avoid a breakdown call. The interval depends on your water, how hot the room gets and how much ice you go through. Sam can add your machines to a regular refrigeration maintenance visit, so the ice makers, fridges and cool room are all checked in one trip.

Book an Ice-O-Matic repair in Perth

Send the model number from the data plate, for example UCG085APD or CIM0635, along with what the machine is doing. Same-day callouts run 7 days across Perth, and Sam does the work himself without subcontractors. Rates are $75 + GST for the call-out and $180 an hour + GST plus parts, and the repair is priced before he starts.

Frequently asked questions

Can you fix an Ice-O-Matic that is still under warranty?

If the machine is inside its warranty period, contact Ice-O-Matic or the business that sold it to you before anyone else, as they handle warranty claims. Sam is not a warranty or service agent for any maker. He takes care of machines that are out of warranty, routine servicing, and any repair an owner wants done straight away at their own cost.

What does PD mean on an Ice-O-Matic model number?

On the UCG gourmet machines, a PD suffix marks the pump out drain version. A small pump inside the cabinet pushes melt water up or across to a waste, so the machine does not need a floor drain directly below it. If that pump stops, water collects in the cabinet, so a PD unit that is leaking or full of water should be checked promptly.

Why is my Ice-O-Matic flaker making wet, slushy ice?

Flake ice should come out cold and fairly dry. Wet or slushy flakes usually mean the freezing cylinder is not cold enough, which can come from a dirty condenser, a fan fault, low refrigerant or a hot room, or from scale insulating the cylinder. Worn auger parts can add to it. Sam tests each possibility before quoting.

Can you clean and service an Ice-O-Matic cube dispenser?

Yes. The CD dispensers store ice and move it to the outlet, so the hopper, agitator, chute and drain all need regular cleaning and sanitising, not just the visible front. Sam strips back the parts that touch ice, clears the drain, and checks the dispensing mechanism and the ice maker feeding it while he is there.

What will an Ice-O-Matic repair cost?

In metro Perth the call-out is $75 + GST, then labour is $180 an hour + GST, with parts on top. Once the fault is found you get a fixed price for the repair, and Sam only goes ahead when you approve it. For a machine that just needs cleaning, the visit is usually short and no parts are needed.

Is my old Ice-O-Matic worth repairing?

Often it is. Pumps, valves, sensors, fan motors and boards are all reasonable repairs on an older machine. A failed compressor, a damaged evaporator or a model with no parts left are the usual reasons to replace instead. Sam gives you his honest view on site, and if a new machine makes more sense he can supply and install one.
