Cool room repairs for Guildford businesses
Guildford is one of Perth's oldest towns, about 12 km from the Perth CBD where the Helena River meets the Swan. Sam Celesti repairs cool rooms and freezer rooms for its pubs, restaurants, cafés and food shops, and for the businesses that serve visitors heading out to the Swan Valley. He is ARCtick licensed (AU55592), has more than 20 years in commercial refrigeration, and is the one who answers the phone and does the work.
You can describe the fault on a free call first. After an inspection Sam gives you a fixed quote, and emergency jobs where stock is at risk are dealt with first, 7 days a week.
Heritage buildings and where the plant can go
The local angle in Guildford is the buildings. Much of the town centre dates from the nineteenth century, with thick masonry walls, verandahs, small rear yards, and in some cases cellars beneath the bar. A walk-in cool room was usually added decades later, squeezed into a storeroom or an old kitchen, with the condensing unit placed wherever it would not be seen from the street.
That hidden spot is often the problem. Condensing units tucked into narrow side passages, enclosed courtyards or under stairs keep pulling in the warm air they have just pushed out. Long pipe runs back to a cool room deep inside the building cost capacity and make leaks harder to find. Old wiring and shared circuits can cause low voltage at start up, which shortens compressor life.
Working around the building: Sam will tell you where a unit needs to sit to work properly and where a compromise is acceptable. If any change touches a heritage listed facade or roofline, talk to the council first. Sam can supply equipment specifications to support that conversation.
Inside the room itself, older insulated panels fixed to uneven floors and walls tend to leak cold air at the joints and around the door frame. Fixing the seals can matter as much as fixing the refrigeration.

If your cool room fails mid service
- Go to wherever the condensing unit lives and see if it is running. Clear any boxes, bins or furniture that have crept in around it since the last service.
- Look at the controller. Note the temperature it shows and any flashing code, then pass both on when you call.
- Put the most perishable food, such as dairy, cooked meats and seafood, into whatever working fridge you have. Track the minutes it spends above 5°C: under 2 hours it can be chilled again, 2 to 4 hours it should be used straight away, 4 hours or more and it must be discarded.
Pubs, cafés and the antique strip
Guildford's trade leans heavily on hospitality and visitors. The historic hotels in the town centre run keg cool rooms, bottle fridges, kitchen walk-ins and ice machines. Cafés and restaurants along James Street and among the antique and collectables shops rely on display cabinets, under bench prep fridges and small walk-in rooms. Bakeries, delis and takeaways round out the mix, and weekend trade from day trippers on their way to the Swan Valley means Saturday and Sunday are often the busiest days of the week.
Pubs need cold beer and a working ice machine every afternoon. Cafés need display fridges that hold temperature with the sun on the front window. Sam repairs all of it, and where a system keeps losing gas, his leak detection and regas service finds the leak before topping it up.
Sam also works in nearby Bassendean and Midland. For the wider service, see Perth cool room repairs.
