Cool room repairs for Midland and the Swan Valley
Midland is about 15 km from the Perth CBD, the gateway between the city, the hills and the Swan Valley. Sam Celesti repairs and services cool rooms and freezer rooms for businesses right across the area, from retailers in the town centre to producers out among the vineyards. He has worked in commercial refrigeration for more than 20 years, holds ARCtick licence AU55592, and does every job himself rather than handing it to a subcontractor.
Call with your symptoms and Sam will talk through them for free. When he has seen the equipment, you get a fixed quote before he starts, and breakdowns with stock on the line are moved to the top of the list, 7 days a week.
Midland Gate, the hospital and the Swan Valley
Midland's business mix is broader than most suburbs. Midland Gate is the main shopping centre, with supermarkets, a fresh food section, cafés and takeaway outlets that rely on walk-in cool rooms, freezer rooms and display cabinets. Around St John of God Midland, the hospital precinct supports cafés, pharmacies and medical suites with fridges that have to stay within tight ranges. The old Midland Railway Workshops precinct and the streets around Great Eastern Highway add more restaurants, bakeries, bottle shops and pubs.
To the north and east, the picture changes. The Swan Valley is full of wineries, breweries, cellar door restaurants, and makers of cheese, chocolate, nougat and preserves. They use cool rooms for finished wine and beer, kegs, fresh produce and ingredients that do not cope with heat. South of Midland, the Hazelmere industrial area holds food distributors, processors and logistics yards with larger cold stores.
- Retail and hospitality: walk-in cool rooms, freezer rooms, bar and display fridges, ice machines.
- Health and pharmacy: vaccine and medication fridges that need stable temperatures and quick attention when an alarm sounds.
- Wineries and breweries: cool rooms for bottled stock, kegs and cellar door kitchens.
- Industrial sites: larger cool rooms and freezer rooms with heavier plant and more door traffic.

Things to check while you wait
A few calm steps will protect your stock and help Sam find the fault faster:
- Check the display on the controller and jot down the temperature and any alarm or error code it shows.
- Walk outside to the condensing unit. If it is in full sun on a hot afternoon, shade it if you safely can, and clear anything stacked against it that blocks airflow.
- Group your potentially hazardous food together and time how long it has been above 5°C. Less than 2 hours, refrigerate it again; 2 to 4 hours, use it immediately; 4 hours or more, discard it.
Inland heat and vintage season
Midland does not get the coastal sea breeze the way the western suburbs do. On a 40 degree day the air around a condensing unit can be well above that again, especially on a sun baked roof or a bitumen yard. Refrigeration systems reject heat into the surrounding air, and the hotter that air, the harder the compressor works and the higher the head pressure climbs. That is when marginal systems trip out, often in the middle of the afternoon when the kitchen or shop is busiest.
The Swan Valley adds a second pressure point. Vintage falls in late summer, at the same time as the peak of the hot weather and some of the busiest tourist weekends. Wineries and food producers are filling cool rooms with fruit, juice, finished stock and event catering just as their plant faces its hardest conditions. A cool room that coped all winter can fail in the one month it matters most.
The fix is usually simple and done ahead of time: clean condenser coils, check refrigerant charge, test fans and controls, and make sure the unit has room to breathe. That is the core of our refrigeration maintenance visits. For everything else, see cool room repair in Perth, or ask about Sam's work in nearby Bayswater.
