Cottesloe cool room repairs with Sam Celesti
Sam services cool rooms, freezer rooms and keg rooms for Cottesloe's hotels, cafés, restaurants, kiosks and bottle shops, about 11 km from the Perth CBD. He has worked in commercial refrigeration for more than two decades, holds ARCtick licence AU55592 and carries out every repair himself. The quote is fixed and agreed before he begins.
Cottesloe's trade rises and falls with the weather more than almost anywhere else Sam works, and its refrigeration has to keep up with that.
Marine Parade, Napoleon Street and the beach crowd
There are two main pockets of food and drink business in Cottesloe:
- Marine Parade beachfront hotels: large pub kitchens and bars with several cool rooms, keg rooms, bottle fridges and ice machines serving big summer crowds.
- Marine Parade cafés and kiosks: smaller walk-in rooms, drinks fridges and ice cream freezers that run hardest on warm weekends.
- Napoleon Street: the village strip of cafés, bakeries, delis and specialty grocers with display cabinets and compact cool rooms.
- Stirling Highway: bottle shops and takeaways with walk-in drinks rooms and chest freezers.
Hotels usually call about a keg room that will not hold or an ice machine that cannot keep up on a hot afternoon. Cafés notice a drinks fridge that stops chilling once the doors start swinging. For cabinets and ice, see commercial fridge repairs and ice machine repairs.

From a quiet winter to the first hot weekend
The Cottesloe angle is the seasonal swing. Through winter, a beachfront venue may run one cool room instead of three, keep stock low and have the keg room ticking over. Then a warm weekend arrives, the beach fills, and every room is loaded and opened constantly while the outside temperature climbs into the high 30s.
Equipment does not enjoy that change. A system that has coasted for months can hide a slow refrigerant leak because a lightly loaded room barely needs the charge. Fans and contactors that have sat idle can stick. Condenser coils collect a winter of dust and, close to the ocean, a salty film. None of it shows until the day the system needs every bit of capacity it has, which is usually the first busy Saturday of the season.
Big events add to the strain. Sculpture by the Sea brings large crowds to the beach each autumn, and summer public holidays fill the foreshore. A breakdown on one of those days costs far more in lost trade than one on a wet Tuesday in July.
The single most useful thing a seasonal Cottesloe venue can do is book a service in late winter. Problems found then can be fixed on your schedule rather than in the middle of a heatwave.
Planned work and the bigger picture
A pre-season maintenance service covers coil cleaning, refrigerant checks, fan motors, door seals and controller settings, so the rooms are ready before the crowds. If a leak turns up, Sam fixes it and then carries out the regas. He also works in Fremantle down the coast and offers cool room repairs anywhere around Perth.
If your cool room is warming up today
- Turn off what you do not need. If you are running spare rooms or fridges that share a circuit, switch off the non-essential ones and consolidate stock so the working rooms are not overloaded.
- Look and listen outside. Check the condensing unit is not covered by umbrellas, deck chairs or stacked crates, and note whether its fan is turning. Do not hose it down.
- Watch the time above 5°C. FSANZ recommends potentially hazardous food stays at 5°C or below. Once your room is warmer, keep track: under 2 hours and the food can return to the fridge, 2 to 4 hours means use it straight away, and 4 hours or beyond means it is thrown out.
Ring Sam and describe the symptoms, which costs nothing. Emergency jobs are prioritised 7 days a week.
