Who repairs cool rooms in Myaree?
Sam Celesti does. He is the lead technician here, with over 20 years on commercial refrigeration and ARCtick licence AU55592, and he handles each Myaree job himself from the phone call to the final temperature check. Myaree is about 11 km from the Perth CBD in the City of Melville, a short run from O'Connor. Every repair is quoted at a fixed price before work starts, and he works on cool rooms, freezer rooms and the fridges and cabinets out on the shop floor.
Walk-in rooms, small units and shared walls
Myaree's business area is unusual for a light industrial zone. Alongside trade suppliers and workshops, many of the tenancies are part shop, part warehouse: a showroom or retail counter at the front, storage and a cool room out the back, sometimes a small kitchen or production area in between. That layout creates two refrigeration problems Sam sees again and again.
Cool rooms that customers walk into
Some food and wine retailers in the area let customers into a walk-in cool room to choose stock. That is good for sales and hard on the equipment. The door is open or ajar for long stretches, warm air pours in, and the evaporator coil collects ice faster than its defrost cycle can clear it. The room drifts warmer through a busy Saturday and recovers overnight, until one day it does not. Fixes range from defrost timing and controller settings to a stronger door closer, new seals or a better strip curtain.
Condensers with nowhere to breathe
In small strata units the condensing unit is often mounted inside the warehouse, above the cool room, or on a rear wall a metre from the neighbour's. A condenser needs a steady supply of cool air. Inside a closed unit it recirculates its own heat, the compressor runs longer and hotter, and capacity falls as the afternoon warms up. Sam checks clearances and airflow on every call, because replacing a failed compressor without fixing the cause only buys time.

Steps to take until Sam arrives
If the room is warming, close it to customers first. A sign on the door and a staff member fetching orders keeps the cold in far better than browsing does.
Then look at the condensing unit. If it is inside your tenancy, open the roller door or a vent to give it fresh air, and see whether the fan is turning. Note what the controller shows and any alarm code so Sam has it when you call.
Finally, probe your most sensitive stock: deli meats, cheese, seafood, ready meals. Potentially hazardous food needs to stay at 5°C or below. If something has been warmer for under 2 hours it can go back into refrigeration; between 2 and 4 hours, use or sell it now; beyond 4 hours it must be thrown out. Write the readings down with times for your food safety records.
Myaree's food businesses and their equipment
Plenty of Myaree tenants trade in specialty and imported food, and that trade depends on refrigeration. Delis and continental grocers run cool rooms for cheese and smallgoods plus serve-over cabinets on the floor. Butchers and seafood retailers need cool rooms and freezer rooms that hold tight temperatures. Wholesale bakeries and patisseries use retarder cabinets and cool rooms for doughs and finished cakes, while wine and drinks retailers keep a walk-in for chilled stock. Cafés and lunch bars scattered through the area add under-bench fridges, display fridges and ice machines.
Each brings typical faults: serve-over cabinets with failed fans or blocked drains, freezer rooms with defrost heater problems, door gaskets split by trolleys, and controllers whose probes have drifted so the display no longer tells the truth. Sam works on Danfoss, Carel, Eidis, Tecumseh, Skope and Cabero equipment among other major brands.
For display and counter units, see commercial fridge and freezer repairs. If your cool room is too small for how the business has grown, Sam can talk through a new or extended cool room. Regular servicing suits busy retail rooms that cop heavy door traffic. Our guide to Perth cool room repairs covers the common faults in more depth.
