What is on this page
Arcus Australia is a Perth refrigeration supplier carrying ice equipment from several makers. The 65 listings here come from Scotsman (39), Follett (24, two of them Symphony Plus dispensers), ITV (1) and one dispenser sold under the Arcus name. Ice-O-Matic machines have moved to their own pages. Sam Celesti is not part of Arcus: he is an independent refrigeration mechanic who supplies, plumbs in and services this equipment, and he can price any of it.
Broken down, there are 34 ice makers (15 listed as heads, 19 as ice machines), 14 storage bins, 2 ice shuttle systems and 15 dispensers.
Ice makers
Listed output runs from 24 kg a day on the Scotsman ECM 47 gourmet machine to 869 kg a day on the Scotsman C 2148 MR head. Decide on the shape of ice first, then the amount:
- Cube. The everyday bar and cafe cube: Scotsman NU machines and NW and C heads, and the ITV SPIKA MS410 A head.
- Gourmet cube. Clear, dense cubes that melt slowly in spirits and cocktails: Scotsman ECM and ECS machines from 24 kg to 140 kg a day, and MXG heads from 149 kg to 310 kg.
- Nugget, cubelet and Chewblet. Small, soft ice that is easy to chew and fills a cup fast, popular in healthcare and quick service: Scotsman MFN nugget heads, Scotsman AFC cubelet machines and Follett Chewblet machines.
- Flake. Soft flakes that pack around seafood, meat and produce on display: the Follett MFE414ABT and UFE425A80-PD flake machines.
Bins, shuttles and dispensers
A head only makes ice, so it needs somewhere to drop it. The 14 storage bins run from 129 kg (Scotsman NB 193) to 1,186 kg (Follett ITS2250SG), including three upright bins from Scotsman and Follett. Four of the Follett bins and the two Scotsman ice shuttle systems are built to move ice to where it is used, handy for a function centre filling carts for several bars. Make sure the head and bin are listed to fit each other, especially when they come from different makers.
The 15 dispensers keep hands and scoops out of the ice, which matters in hospitals, aged care, offices and hotels. They include the Arcus AFIP450M automatic dispenser, Follett push button, ice and water, and water dispensers, Follett Symphony Plus ice and water dispensers, and Scotsman hotel and worksite dispensers.
Water, drain, power and heat
- Water. A cold supply with an isolating valve beside the machine. Perth water is hard, so fit a filter to slow scale.
- Drain. Most machines let melt water fall by gravity to a waste below them, so find the nearest floor waste before you settle on a spot.
- Power. These listings do not give plug ratings, and the bigger heads may need more than a standard outlet. Sam checks the spec sheet against your switchboard before you order.
- Heat. Ice output falls as room and water temperatures rise. Give the machine clear air around its condenser, and ask Sam what output to expect in a Perth summer rather than relying on the headline figure.
Install and aftercare
Sam places and levels the equipment, connects water, drain and filter, seals heads to their bins, and waits for the first harvest to check the ice before he leaves. Ask Sam about removing the old machine. Equipment can also go by courier if your own plumber is fitting it.
On Perth water, ice machines need descaling and sanitising several times a year. Sam services and repairs Scotsman, Follett and the rest of these units at $75 + GST call out and $180 + GST per hour plus parts, with the job priced before work starts.
