ActiveCore

Ice cream freezers

Which ActiveCore freezer fits

SKOPE lists 17 upright glass door display freezers, all from its ActiveCore family. Every one stands 2,210 mm tall and 745 mm deep, so the choice comes down to width, door count and how much frozen stock you need on show.

  • One door, 740 mm wide, 558 L. For a cafe, deli or service station adding a frozen line.
  • Two doors, 1,130 mm wide, 897 L. Suits a convenience store or takeaway.
  • Two doors, 1,480 mm wide, 1,202 L. The SKFT1300N models spread two doors across a wider cabinet, giving more shelf width per door.
  • Three doors, 1,705 mm wide, 1,399 L. For a grocer or small supermarket.

The SKFT codes come in all four sizes and the TMF codes in three (there is no 1,480 mm TMF). SKOPE gives matching SKFT and TMF sizes the same capacity, dimensions and energy figures, so ask Sam which suits your fit-out. Each size comes plain or as an AC version with a lit sign across the top. All 14 hold -21 °C to -18 °C, and SKOPE describes them as display or storage freezers.

Ice cream freezers

Three TMF models are set up for ice cream: the TMF650N-Ice (610 L), TMF1000N-Ice (980 L) and TMF1500N-Ice (1,396 L). SKOPE lists them at -12 °C to -9 °C, much warmer than the standard models. Tell Sam exactly what will go in before you choose one: packaged ice cream and frozen desserts held for weeks are normally kept at -18 °C or colder, so the setting has to suit the product and how quickly it sells.

What to check before you buy

Height and the way in. At 2,210 mm tall, check bulkheads and signs. Measure the doorway, corridor and any tight corner between the loading bay and the final spot.

Heat around the cabinet. Beside a west facing shopfront window, or in a storeroom with no air conditioning during a Perth heatwave, it runs longer and frosts up faster. Leave clear air space around the cabinet and keep boxes off the top so it can shed heat.

Running costs. SKOPE lists daily energy use from 10.47 kWh on the plain one door model to 31.35 kWh on the three door with a lit sign. The sign itself adds only 0.11 to 0.23 kWh a day. Per litre, the 897 L two door is the most economical in the range, and the three door uses close to three times the power of the one door while holding about two and a half times as much.

Power. Give the freezer its own outlet rather than a power board shared with a drinks fridge or a coffee machine, and ask Sam to confirm the plug and circuit for the model you pick.

Capacity against turnover. Size it for the stock you sell between deliveries, not the most you could ever order.

Supplied and installed by Sam

Sam delivers the freezer, moves it into place, levels it so the doors swing and seal properly, checks the clearances and switches it on. He waits until it has pulled down to temperature before you load stock. If an old freezer is coming out, ask Sam about removing it. If you would rather handle it yourself, the unit can also be sent by courier.

Servicing and repairs

Sam services and repairs ActiveCore freezers, from doors that will not seal to cabinets that frost up or will not hold temperature. Attending costs $75 + GST, then $180 + GST an hour plus parts, and he gives you a fixed price for the repair before he starts. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the SKFT and TMF freezers?

SKOPE lists matching SKFT and TMF sizes with the same capacity, dimensions, temperature range and daily energy use. The SKFT line comes in four widths, including a 1,480 mm two door that the TMF line does not have. Ask Sam which model suits your fit-out and what is available when you are ready to order.

What does the AC on the model code mean?

The AC versions have a lit sign across the top of the cabinet, while the A versions do not. SKOPE lists the lit sign versions at 0.11 to 0.23 kWh a day more than the plain ones, so the sign adds very little to running costs. It is worth having if the freezer faces customers.

Can I use a SKOPE display freezer for storage?

Yes. SKOPE describes the ActiveCore models as display or storage freezers, and the glass doors let staff see stock without opening them. In a back room that saves door openings and time. A solid door freezer holds temperature with less effort, so if nobody needs to see inside, ask Sam about a storage model instead.

How cold do the ice cream freezers run?

SKOPE lists the three ice cream models at -12 °C to -9 °C, while the other 14 freezers hold -21 °C to -18 °C. That is a big difference, so check with Sam that the setting suits what you sell and how long it sits in the cabinet before choosing one.

How much power does a SKOPE display freezer use?

SKOPE lists 10.47 kWh a day for the one door, 16.17 kWh for the 1,130 mm two door, 22.18 kWh for the 1,480 mm two door and 31.12 kWh for the three door, with slightly more on the lit sign versions. A hot room, a crowded condenser and frequent door openings all push those figures up.

Why is my display freezer frosting up?

Frost usually comes from warm, humid air getting in: a door left ajar, a torn gasket or a cabinet opened constantly on a busy day. A blocked condenser or a fault in the defrost system can also do it. Sam can find the cause, give you a fixed price for the repair and get the freezer holding temperature again.
